finally, some picutres!

we dug some of cole's cars out from behind the tv where he likes to drive them off the cliff. he insisted on eating lunch with them then gave them several big hugs saying "wuvoo weegee, wuvoo green car!"

last week a photography company called to see if they could come to our house to take pictures of brooklyn. i explained on the phone that we're students and don't quite have the budget for that. i thanked the woman and was about to hang up when she kept going (and going - you all know the drill.) so, i quickly figured out i couldn't stop her w/o being rude and she proceeded to tell me if i let them come do the shoot that they'd give me a free 8 x 10. i finally agreed, thinking to myself that it might be a good opportunity to see a photographer at work and pick up on some good tips.

the photographer came and i made sure tyler was home to be there too - for the photo tips and b/c it's weird to let a stranger in the house - especially with our kids. anyway, he came, and went. he did an ok job - never ceases to amaze me that people don't work a little harder to get a better shot - less editing for later... he took some cute pictures (mostly b/c he had cute material). i wasn't really impressed with what he did, but i did pick up on a few interesting positioning techniques.

the company came back a few days ago to "show" us the pictures and see what package we'd be interested in. the pictures (after some editing) turned out pretty cute. i explained the whole student thing again when the guy proceeded to show me EVERY possible package starting at $600. he was determined to make them affordable to me with the last package he offered at $200 (which included an 8 x 10 and three 5 x 7's...) wow! he made me feel like a moron for not being able to afford their pictures. i thanked him and he left, frustrated with us.

so, i tried to shrug it off, but was still bugged for several days. i'm not a great photographer and tyler's super busy. i was feeling so guilty for not taking as many pictures of brooklyn as we took of cole and then guilty for never taking any studio portraits of coleman - although he's probably happy about that... i just couldn't quite shake the whole thing and was getting more and more bugged by it, so i decided to take action - here's the end product. we kinda swung into it in hurry using the laundry in the living room and a pillow that was already on the floor. i just wanted to see what i could do in 10 minutes. here's our cute little model and her not-so-happy-to-model brother. the pictures could probably use a little work, but at least i feel better about having some pictures to post and remember this cute time in our kids' lives. :).

Hey that sounds like the company I use for Mackenna's professional pictures. I know they're oricey, which is why I only get them to take her pics. every 6 months, but I love that they come to my house and I always use this girl who is very good with Mackenna (I didn't like any of the guys and made them re-do the first photoshoot with a girl and they turned out amazing). I just got her 2 yr. pics in the mail, you'll have to come over and see them. Too bad I'm not a professional like you so I could save money on pictures, you did SO good with your kids' pics!!

I think you did a great job with the pictures you took, your kids are cute. My husband doesn't like that I get professional pictures of Kaylee. He thinks they are too much money. We get ours at JCPenney and I think the most I've ever spent is $30 ($4 a sheet). He would die if I told him I got them for $200.

That is insane. The lowest price was $200. Your kids are so cute they will love you no matter what kind of pictures you take of them or have of them. They are so lucky to have such a wonderful mom to make this blog for them. That is priceless I think. I don't know if this will make you feel better but I still don't have professional pictures of my two youngest and they are 3 and 1. It gets easier when they are in school and they do the pictures there. Also I was thinking when I look back at pictures when I was a kid the pictures I enjoy the most and mean more to me are not the professional pictures. They are the pictures that were taken with my family. I love you so much you and Tyler are awesome parents. I miss you good luck out there in California. I am always thinking of you.

I know what you mean. I finally said yes to the people at the Ontario Outlet mall and they wouldn't leave me alone after I saw the "not so great" photos of Evie. The photographer took 3 shots and that's it. Wow, you'd like that a little effort might sell better. Your shots are amazing. I thought they were professional. Wait a go. Your babies are so cute.

You sure did a better job than the photographer! Your pics look natural and easy going. Great job, and you shouldn't really feel bad, that sales guy was kind of weird and really did lay on the guilt trip (its what they do).
