A Brookie-ism

While driving home from a neighbor's house in the car and I asked, "How's everybody?" to which Brookie replied emphatically: "Not well!" I asked her what was wrong and this was her reply: "I can't get my grola bar out of the grola sack!" So classic. She frequently says "not well" when you ask her how she's doing, then comes up with something really funny to explain why. Wish I could remember them all. I did like how she described the problem unwrapping her granola bar this time though. :) That's our Brookie!

August - the first half :)

Cole continued swimming lessons. He had a blast and became a really great swimmer. On the last day, he swam in the big pool alone with a friend while I watched from the side. (I lost my swimming suit - or maybe someone who has seen my prego belly stole it to spare the world...) He swam like a champ and navigated the deep water exceptionally well. We may have another Michael Phelps on our hands. Look out everyone!! :)

Brookie thoroughly enjoyed swimming as well. She is quite the fish - just not when it comes to her face. She can blow bubbles, but it's a dainty process with no splashing. :) They had a great time and made some fun friends. That was an exciting 2 weeks. It was nice to have somewhere to be every morning and they never got tired of it. More swimming lessons, please. :)

 floating on his stomach

 for the love of goggles!!

learning how to use the kick board :)

 brookie diva

the class. cole was almost always on the steps because he couldn't reach the bottom, but it didn't seem to slow him down at all.

 bubbles and bobs

floating on his back without a fuss - we knew he could do it :)

swimming with his face in the water. he seems to LOVE this - we have to pull his head out to get him to breathe. he can hold his breath for a really long time...

 with "rocket arms" - they're a hit!

 playing at the park

 look comfy?

our runner. cole is incredibly fast. he may be a bit shorter than lots of kids his age, but he can beat any one of them in a race.

i couldn't decide which one of these i liked best. i love it when tyler comes home and they wrestle and play together. the perfect ending to any day!!

more swimming - kicking with rocket arms while floating on your back...

swimming from the teacher to the side of the pool. it was amazing to see how much farther he could go by the end of the 2 weeks!

a floaty in the pool. very fun!

 not shy about splashing now!

another ward park day - so fun!! this simple (and not very attractive) sprinkler is a total hit! this is just a plain old park, but it's one of the kids' favorites :)

more swimming - practice in the little pool.

 more floating

here he is swimming away from his teacher to the edge of the pool. you can't really tell from these pictures, but it was probably 8-10 feet. we were impressed!

it's a little chilly some mornings

 the "car wash" :)

hanging out with new friends in the little pool after lessons

 more practice

yup. not afraid, but he can't touch there either. the last day of lessons we stayed for awhile with the friends and swam. i didn't have a suit, so i just watched from the side while he and karris swam together. they practiced lots of the things they'd learned in their lessons and even made up a game about it. :) very cute and fun!

"look karris, i'm dead" - that's what he said while bobbing up and down then floating to the top on his stomach. it's hard for him to get to a floating position on his back, but he can float up on his tummy then turn over. kinda creepy looking, but cool.

 bobbing back to the steps

grandma marilee sent us these fun projects from her cool music camps this summer. the kids were so excited we ended up doing them all at once. :) thanks grandma!!

brookie's pretty pleased with herself. this is right up her alley. :) she had a fabulous time!!

coleman had a great time too - i think his favorite part, however, was not the final product, but the thrill of squeezing massive amounts of glue all over everything. :) look out preschool teachers - he's a messy one! (he was actually pretty neat about it - there was just a ton of glue. he used it almost like solder to get his feathers to stick just right - putting a big glob down, meticulously placing the feather, then covering the end of the feather with more glue.) :)

That's all for now. August is still a happenin' month around here, so stay tuned for more pictures. :)
